Installing Java on WIndows 8

Just got a new computer finally, and am trying to install Java on it so I can run the chat room here among other things. The Computer is a ASUS X550C running windows 8. Every time I try to install Java it fails.

Anyone know why this might be? Am I not doing something or another right, or is it something about windows8 and Javanot being compatible?

Make sure you install and run Java from the Desktop screen and not the Start screen. The Desktop screen looks like Windows 7 and the Start screen has all the tiles.
