Have a Marlin 336 35 Rem with a Microgroove bbl. I have some 35 cal 205 gr GC cast bullets that have been sized to .3580-.3585 (not by me).

Everything I have seen is that the Microgroove bbl needs basically a min .359 sized bullet, and will prob do better with a .360 bullet. I really don't want to waste these if they aren't going to perform well. Would rather swap them for some .360s, or worst case just recycle the lead...

Anyone having any luck at all shooting anything less than .359-.360 cast in a Microgroove bbl? Thanx

Your best bet would be to clean your rifle barrell really and slug it to see what size you need. Mine likes .360"

Try a few and see what happens? Might work, might not. If they lead it isn't a big deal, lead cleans out easily.

Sometimes you have to take the Pelosi approach and do it to see what happens.......

I realize this doesn't answer your question but .359 is what I size to (good accuracy and zero leading). For your boolits, I agree with btroj....shoot em and see how they do. If your rifle doesn't like them, throw them in the pot.

Mine seems to want 360 or 361

Marlins like their bullets fat... .359" is marginal, .360" would be a better bet. The only way to really tell is to slug your barrel and go up .002".

.360 is what my rifle likes but your rifle may like your boolits just fine, won't know until you try.

This is the place to start. Then you think of micgrove barrels typically doing better with a fatter boolit...............then you test. But of course there are those who systematically start with poor results and search for the cure.

Funny thing, my Marlin shoots .358 just fine. I find that the 204 grain RN that I cast will engrave very firmly on the front driving band when seated to the crimp groove and given a medium crimp. Try loading up 10 with 20 grains of IMR 4198. That load should shoot.

Let the rifle speak.

Given a chance it will tell you much more about the reality of what it likes than we can by guessing.

All good points. In the end, only Mr. Target knows the answer.
