I have a hankering to do something odd. Who makes a decent reproduction of a late 1880s to early 1900s palm rest? I can do simple inletting with my mill as needed. There should be a hooked buttplate somewhere, so having a bull barrel won't pivot the rifle forward.

BTW, I found a hooked buttplate already slotted and with a correct tube for use with a Remington 540-XR. Now I can use my Freeland "Mr. Cairo" #2 (IIRC) palm rest without having to hold onto the pistol grip with a vice.

Look at the ASSRA website. There are a few new old style one shown in the monthly magazine. I think that they're on the website also.

MVA also makes the hardware for palm rests. I'm not certain if they sell the wood, or if you have to handle that yourself.

You can make a neat old fashioned looking palm rest out of an old porcelain doorknob. I've got a couple if you want to try one.

I once made one with a billiard ball, a hunk of ready-thread, some brass tubing, and a t-nut. Lots of ways to skin this cat.

CPA should have what you are looking for. Butplate and palmrest.

Bought a CPA Pope-Style, Nickel, with a 3" knob. It came from PA to WI in under 3 days (IIRC). Very fast shipping. Looks good.
