My friend came to shoot a while. I found I only had 11 rounds loaded with the 347 gr Lyman boolit with 21.5 gr's of 296. I grabbed 6 so I have 5 left in case I want to hunt with it. I shot the six at my steel plate at 50 yd's offhand and had all six in 3". I am good to go for deer. This thing is easy to shoot!

Is that an old Vaquero or a new model? That load seems a bit stout for a new one.

Remember, you said you were going to use the 45-70 boolits I sent you on the first deer. Don't think the fact you cheated and used your .475 on the first one got by me! No slipping the 45 Colt in now! My slugs get the next one!:drinks:

Yep, been carrying the 45-70. The full moon has the deer moving real late, I was booting them all over walking out tonight in the dark. Might have some luck in the morning.
My friend knocked one down with his .338 Win Mag--all I can say is "WOW"-- almost as good as a revolver!:mrgreen:
Yes, it is the old Vaquero, no way I would shoot these loads in the new one. I think they ruined a great gun just for the cowboy crowd. They should make both versions.

They should have kept making the 45 colt redhawk also.I'd like to see a bisley flattop 45 colt in the big blackhawk frame with a 5 and a half inch barrel.I still havn't shot any revolver that is as comfortable to shoot as the RCBS SAA 270 45 colt boolit over 9 grains power pistol in my redhawk. It is easy on the ears and very accurate and will blow through most anything that gets hunted.

I like single actions but I would really like to have a 45Colt in a 5.5" redhawk. There are a few for sale but they are getting harder to come by and the price is going higher.

What frame is the Bisley model made on? I find the plow share grip to be awlfully hard on the fingers of the shooting hand. My middle finger takes a beating off the trigger guard.

Bob, the Bisley hurt my finger much worse then the BH or SBH.

Thanks for that. You just save me $600.:) Any thoughts on the new Super Blackhawk in .45Colt 5 1/2" barrel? I have a Berretta Stampede in 4 3/4 and like it as a truck gun in that the barrel doesn't dig into the seat when sitting holstered. The gun is nice but not one I would shoot a lot of heavy loads in. The Colt SAA is a rather fragile design - not sure outside of Hollywood - why or how the gun got it's reputation. Suspect more fantasy than fact. Now Rugers on the otherhand....

The Bisley grip usually hurt guys who have big hands. I love the bisley grip myself and have several that way. Accusport made a series of stainless 5-1/2"Bisley gripped Blackhawks in 45 Colt, 45 Colt convertible, 44 Mag, 41 Mag and 357 Mag. I've never seen anyone with small to medium hands get hurt with one.

Put Pachmeyer grips on the SBH to save your finger. I even put them on the Vaquero. I shoot heavy hunting loads all the time and use heavy boolits. I have to protect my knuckle.
I hate the Bisley and don't know why everyone says they handle recoil better. They are also sensitive to the way they are held.
I think the .45 SBH would be great. You never have to worry about power if you need it.

I believe Ruger is introducing a Redhawk x 4" in 45 Colt in 2008.
