I bought this 457483 here on the forum a few days ago, the mold arrived today.

I'm getting a nice, round .460" with ACWW's.

I'm shooting these out of a 45/70 with a Green Mountain barrel.

Anyone with this bullet that would like to step in and share your thoughts on the performance of this bullet in your rifle (s), I'd really like to hear your comments.

That is the most accurate 45-70 bullet I have. Have had my 457483 since '69. I cast it soft (20-1 or 16-1) and HP it for hunting at TD level loads. I cast it harder COWWs +2% tin, WQ the bullets and push it to 2300 fps in my Siamese Mauser 450-400-70 (ok, it's a 45-70 but I hallucinate about it). An absolutely outstanding 45-70 bullet. Very good in the 45-90, 458 Win Mag and a 450 nitro express also.

Ben, I've been casting that boolit for model '86 Winchesters since 1972. Before that my dad was using that mould since the early 1950s. It has been my favorite for the 45-70 for 40+ years.

Larry has it right. I've never HPed it, but I'll have to give that some consideration.

I just cast it from about 60% COWW to 40% SOWW +2% tin, air cooled. That works for both BP and smokeless era model '86 Winchesters. I don't generally push them beyond 1800 fps even from an '86 with a "Nickel steel" barrel.

10 grs. away from 400 grs.( mine weigh 390 grs. ) , I don't suppose it has to be pushed too fast.

Without looking it up, if memory serves, Lyman's quoted weight on the boolit was 392 grns.

What alloy Ben? With my 457483 if I cast of lino they run way down at 375 gr. With COWWs + 2% tin they run 385 naked and right at 390 fully dressed, just like yours. With 16-1 or 20-1 alloy they run right at 400 gr fully dressed.

I'll tell you what's fun is shooting them at long range from the TD at 1350 fps or less. With the sun behind, you can watch that big ole GC all the way to the target! Just about like watching tracers. I've had many a newbie, especially woman and kids, marvel at how they can watch a bullet in flight with it.

I have one of those in a single cavity also...

I thought a shallow cup point would make the perfect HP for hunting.

Ben, looking forward to your targets and load development.

Oh Yes, a cup point in this one would be a deadly combination in my opinion.
