The temp probe(RTD) for my digital thermometer is a tad too long for inside use. Just lays in the pot, top heavy, and in the way for fluxing/skimming.
Steel trap brain engages.
I throw together this little jewel from odds 'n ends. Drill a couple of holes, tap one for a thumbscrew. Whammo!

For outside use on a ww smelt, I'll wingnut the the base to a 18" bolt studded old harrow disc, spin on a piece a IMC conduit to the base for increased heigth, replace the coupling with the 45 degree elbow to keep the whole sheebang away from the fireworks. Used it inside for the first time today. Kept the probe suspended in the melt, on the edge, out of my way for fluxing and skimming........as intended.
