Hello all,
For those of you who have the RCBS .458 300 gr or 405 gr gas check molds what diameter do they drop and with approximately what alloy? Shopping for a mold to cast bullets for a friend with a new Marlin 1895 in 45-70 and hoping for .460" or close. How do you like the RCBS bullets? I am very impressed with the couple of other RCBS molds I own and considering one for the 45-70.
Thanks for the help,
Rick

My sized 405 grain versions (Wheel Weight Alloy) measure .4585. So they are atleast that diameter. RCBS moulds are very easy to cast with and proven performers. 20/1 alloy will cast very slightly larger and mushroom nicely on impact. Go with the 300gr version for less recoil.

My 300's drop just under .460" and the 400's are just over. This is with WW's sweetened up with enough lino to test around 15 BHN. They work out perfect for .459" sizing.

Rick, I would be real inclined to buy an NOE if he has something you like in .45. His have always been within one half thousandth of his target diameter for me. The RCBS will likely be too small, though the molds are good.
