hi guys , I do not know how tough it is to get 2400 pistol powder nationwide ?? , buts it is tough here in NY , just wondering what the cost is nationwide for a pound ??
please post.
I was told at the last gun show that the reason I am having a problem buying 2400 here is because mecury is used in the productio and the government control mecury ??
not sure if this is true fell free to post , many thanks, rojp

All powders in my local south Texas gun shop seem to be running $30 a pound, and you take what you can get.

$18.00/lb at the gun shows. Unique & Bullseye is about the same. For some reason, my gun show guy can get it, but the big box stores can't.

Two pounds at Gander Mountain in South East Michigan, $29.95 a pound in early November. I was more than willing to pay it. Good stuff's hard to come by here.
And on the shelf right above it? Three boxes of 240gr 44 cal XTP bullets. I bought those, um, just in case someone else needed them. Yea, that's it. I probably wont load 'em, I'll just keep them in case you guys need them.

My post count will forever keep me a noob, I read too much and don't talk I guess.

Just checked a couple local stores this morning; powder, depending on species, running 24.95 - 35.95 a lb. Last 2 gunshows they ran 30+ a lb. Saw no 2400 for sale.

When a shop has powder in stock it's $27-30/pound. It's pretty tough for any the shops to keep any powder on the shelves as it pretty much sells within a couple days of a shipment arriving and that could be a shipment of 1000#'s of powder.

$18 a pound and it's the easiest powder to get. Don't ask me why but it's always available at the LGSs and Cabelas usually has it as well.

I bought 4 lbs of 2400 last summer, think I paid like $60. The gun shop didn't have 2400 in 8lb containers. Would have saved $20 over the cost of two 4lb containers. They didn't seem to lack anything. I also bought 2k primers, $35/K

Ouch. I'll tell you Robert, if I ever left the USA, NZ is the only country I would consider. Beautiful country on both islands & you can shoot & hunt. Apparently the cost of shooting is quite a bit higher though, ouch.

Another member that lives a long ways from nowhere needs some 2400, so I have checked everywhere here that sells it twice weekly for the past couple of months. I usually check anyway if I am not busy, but black friday was the first 2400 to hit town in several months, and sportsmans had it for 23.99 a pound, when all other powders except unique are 29,99 up. They only had one pound, two days later they had it again, and I got the limit (2 pounds) came back and grabbed my wife, and they were sold out by the time I got back. lol

$19.99/lb 2400
$18.99/lb Unique
$17.99/lb Bullseye
Got one of each last month. The price is inversely proportional to the charge weight used. How about that.

$135 for an 8# last week. Last one. They had a single one pounder at 23. I think I saw a list at a place about 40 miles from here showing it at least available.....it hadn't been for about 4 months.

24.99 at Lgs, 29.99 at the GunShow earlier this month. Spotty availability on the 1 pounders and no 4 lbs, or 8 lbs to be had.

It seems to ebb and flow on pistol powders here lately. My LGS had quite a bit of 296/231 when I went by a few weeks ago. As of yesterday he only has rifle powders. Prices seem to hover around $30#

It would appear that the same local pricing/gouging affecting 22 LRs is working well on powder. I know it is on primers.

My lgs is up to using baggies again to sell 50 rounds of LR to citizens.

Now if the goobermint demand for a hundred year supply of 40 S & W is the root cause of shortages WHY in "ell are so many kinds of powders, primers, and cases out of stock?

Looks as if shooters are being fed just enough to keep discontent below the boiling point.

My thoughts exactly. The price of powder has not gone up 50%. Which is what those paying $30 a pound are paying.

2 pound a day period, and no they will not hold it for you, or anybody. I can see their point, but it sucks for those that only get to town 3 or 4 times a year or less. These people usually by what they need for a year when they come to town, and many of them actually depend on ammo for their living, so after the last few years I can see where they will start hurting, enough to trade gold for it, when they do come in. lol
