I want to get a 200swc mold to use as a general plinking and walk-about bullet from my 45acp Blackhawk. I've had good luck with the TL bullets I use (45-230 & 358-158) but was wondering if the H&G copy might be better, it looks like the 2 have different nose profiles. I want to run this at about 1000 fps and have some listed loads that will get me there. I mostly tumble lube now, but I'm set up to pan lube too.
Opinions, please?

I suggest the Lee 452-200-RF. It is a "fitting" bullet for use in the Ruger both in the ACP and 45 Colt cartridges. It also feeds in most all standard semi-auto 45 ACPs. While my convertible 45 ACP/45 Colt is a Uberti "Evil Roy" that bullet is ideal in both cartridges. I've a couple friends with the Ruger convertibles and they also prefer that bullet. It will work fine TL's also.

I have no complaints with the 200 swc tl, though I've only shot it through my Ruger P90. One of these days I'll get the 45 convertable to the range and try it out. Then again the 200 rf would also be a fine choice.

I have a 6 cavity TL-452-200-SWC which I've been completely satisfied with in 45 ACP. But that 452-200-RF looks mighty good too. Hmmm.

I've put the Lee TL-452-200-SWC thru two 1911's, sever 45 Colt revolvers and a couple of Marlin 1894s in 45 Colt. It's a rounded SWC, almost tot he point of not being a SWC in my opinion.
I like it.

I much prefer the Lee 200 gr SWC with conventional lube groove. It cuts a clean hole, is accurate, and the six cavity mould allows you to cast a bunch of good bullets, quickly.

My personal favorite is the Mihec version of the H&G #68, the classic 200 gr SWC (I have it in both four cavity brass moulds and six cavity aluminum mould). I use .45 ACP cases for the ACP cylinder and it also works well (in my particular revolver) in .45 Cowboy Special cases. I can also use this in .45 Colt cases in the Colt cylinder but typically load the big cases with heavier bullets.

My "standard" bullet for .45 Colt revolvers is the NOE version of the Lyman 454424 Keith 250 gr SWC (I have it in a five cavity aluminum mould). It also does extremely well in appropriate revolvers with .45 Auto Rim and .45 Cowboy Special cases.

In my Blackhawk convertible I shoot the Lee TL 200 GR SWC in 45 ACP (Sized to .452 with cylinder throats reamed to the same size) and it is the most accurate bullet in my gun. At 50 feet off a rest and all six touch if I do my part. 5 grains of BE got me 975FPS, a bit hotter than I was looking for to pop dog food cans so I backed it down to 4 grains with no loss of accuracy and it's super mild to shoot. I have used the same bullet in 45 Colt brass using the 45ACP taper crimp die and it worked pretty well but still wont match the same bullet in the ACP cylinder. I have tried some commercially cast 200 Grain SWC's and had good accuracy in the short term but they always leaded the barrel. To hard (Lead and lube) I think. I cast my stuff out of straight COWW's.

Thanks
Mike

My only gripe with the conventional lubed Lee SWC is the beveled base. I think it makes the boolits a little harder to drop from the mold and keeps the mold from venting as well as it would with flat base. Beveled bases can be a little messy in my 450 lube sizer.

Thanks for the replies. I hadn't considered the 200 RF. That throws another in the mix.
