My son wants to get a 9MM pistol. He is looking at a S&W that is being offered at CAL Ranch for $299.99, (CAL Ranch is a fairly new store here in Arizona.)
My question is the only mold I have that might work for the 9MM is a Lee 105 gr. SWC 38, 357 boolit, has any one tried this slug in the 9, will it feed ok and what success have you had.

Don't overlook the 38/357 moulds in your collection
I used a 358 150 LSWC in my 9mm
It worked ok for me
I used 147 grain data and started with the low load
I never had to go above the low load because it cycled my gun fine.
Keep in mind that I have a service grade 9mm
Please do you own checking/testing before trying
YMMV and all that good disclaimer stuff

I do have several .357 molds but most of them are probably too heavy. The only one that is a round nose is a Lee Six cavity TL mold that drops a 160gr. slug using my alloy, WW and added tin and it's probably to heavy.

The LEE 125 gr RNFP for the .38/.357 works very well for me.

Slightly off topic but I've had good luck with the Lee 124TC. Just my .02

you may not need a RN or TC
a SWC may feed ok

I have run the Lee 358-105 SWC in 9mm and .380 with great results. My first 9mm was a S&W 459 and I still have a 639. I have also shot the 105 through a Taurus 709 Slim and a couple of Glock 22s and 23s. I have seated the boolit to where the case mouth is between the crimp groove and the front driving band.

I shot the Lee 356-125 2R for 25 years sized to .358 as the mold drops .3585 and weighs 126 cast from range scrap. Lately, I've been shooting the Lee 356-120 TC which also drops .3585 but weighs 125 from the same range scrap. Sizing to .358 has been the ticket for every 9mm I've shot. I once tried sizing to .357 and the two pistols I tried both patterned and keyholed. Switched back to .358 and accuracy was back in play.

The SWC boolits didn't cycle reliably for me.

Not likely you will get much in the way of accuracy shooting a 38 cal in a 40 cal barrel. :-)

Yes, it works great. It was my first mold ever in 1976, and I shot a bunch thru
my Browning HP with great results. Heartily recommend Lee 356 120 TC, and
plan on sizing to .357 or .358, not .356

This may help.

I'd not hesitate to give the mold you have a try.
I wouldn't even bother buying a new sizer die, 358 is where I'd start anyway.
make a few dummy rounds [at a slightly different oal if necessary] and strip them from the magazine,, nothing lost.

Oops on my previous post. I left out the part regarding the 9mm conversion barrels for my Glock 22 and 23 pistols. Good catch Dusty. I did also fire them through my buddy's G17 and his wife's G19 . . . And a Marlin Camp Carbine . . . And a Browning Hi-Power . . . And every other 9mm I could get my hands on. My camp Carbine was a tack driver with the 105 SWC.

I was just looking in my old (last years edition) Midway catalog this AM and saw the Lee 120 TC and thought that may be the one.

I will give the 105 a try, befor I spend any more money. I do have a 358 sizer and a 357 sizer.

As mentioned the 105 should work fine in your son's 9mm. I've used it in several over the years it fed fine in all but one. Only way to know in your son's is to try it. Also as mentioned start with the .358 sized bullets, load a couple dummy rounds and see if they chamber. If so then load'em up and shoot them. Bullseye powder (4.5 gr with the 105) always worked best for me.

If you do decide on another mould I recommend the Lee 356-120-TC.

You won't know till you try, and honestly, a handful of 9mm's is nothing cost wise if it fails. If it won't cycle, a good Lee mold can be had for cheap and will run that pistol to its death. My Glock loves Lees 124g round nose tumble lube boolit.
