Just the way it usually happens, minding my own business browsing the used section of the LGS and there it is!

Perfect condition LNIB Ruger Talo Bird's Head 45 Colt.

Looked it over, found it to be CLEAN - then I gripped it. OMG, that bird's head grip is nicer than I could have imagined.

Fills the hand, nothing lacking.

I set it down and walked away, but it burned in my mind overnight. Went back the next day and made an offer for $550 OTD. It was marked $550, but after tax, commission, DROS it would be @ $100 more.

I figured no way they'd take that and thereby allowing me to save face with myself for making an offer, it got away and I'd done my part.

They took the offer!

So I ponied up, took the pics above and now I wait till the 26th to start the paperwork for the 10 day wait (california).

I understand the chamber mouths can run small. I intend to load home cast 250g RNFP or 255g SWC over 9g Unique.

Being a New Vaquero, you have the smaller frame and can't supercharge it. Fine by me, I have plenty magnums for that. I already load for a S&W 25-7, so this same load is going into the Vaquero.

I imagine a 250g cast boolit with a big metplat moving 900fps can get 'er done. :)

Anyone have experience with one of these Talo's?

I have an original frame vaquero with the birds head grip. They have changed the grip substantially. Mine is more of a hook.

That is nice! I saw that Ruger is making the Bearcat in 22 lr with this sort of grip. I like it and I want one!

Might not have small chambers. Most of the newer Rugers have been running right on spec. At any rate I am sure you'll love it. (Especially if you stoke it up with black powder!)
