I have a Winchester 1894 Big Bore (AE) in 307 Winchester and have never shot cast boolits through it since I don't have a "proper" mold for this cartridge. I do have an RCBS 30-180-SP mold that I shoot in the other 30 caliber bolt rifles, but often wondered if the Winchester 94 in 307 Winchester would work? Will they work up through the feed system ok? They do have a small flat tip that probably will keep the other cartridges in the magazine tube from exploding, but will they feed up through the magazine properly and on into the barrel ok. Or is the boolit too long to clear the feed ramp?

Be cautious with "probably" when discussing magazine detonation. I would prefer to be really sure in this circumstance.

I have both the RCBS 180 SP and RCBS 180 FP. The SP has a 40% meplat and the FP has 65% meplat. Both will feed in my Winchester 94 30-30 but I single load the SP out of caution. Both shoot very well up to 1900+ fps.

The RCBS 150 FP also has a 65% meplat.

Good idea. I had thought about doing that but wasn't sure about the complication of deer hunting with different bullets/boolits in the gun. But I guess I could practice single loading each round in a hurry or have one in the chamber and one in the tube. And single load after that. Often in our soy bean fields I have the opportunity of shooting several deer at a time.

I have used a Lee 185 grain 312 bullet in my 30-30 to take 3 or 4 deer. I use an alloy of about half WW/Lead. After casting and during sizing I use a flat nose punch and put a flat nose on them. Then water harden them from the oven and anneal the nose for hunting bullets. They work like an expensive bullet. One deer was taken at 140 steps from the tree and expansion was excellent and the deer had to be tipped off its stomach to dress it. While it sounds a bit complicated its pretty simple to do. Cast-size-harden. You anneal the noses by putting the bases in a pan of water and use a propane torch to soften them. Dont need to do all that many.
