Hi,

I am searching for a Cie that could make or sell a hand reamer (or something) for a Lee sizer to get .4485 inch sizer.

I don't know where to look for...

Please help me...

I would greatly appreciate.

Gerald from Quebec

Gerald,
The sizing dies are hardened, I believe. Therefore, they cannot be 'cut' with a reamer.
But they can be ground with a stone, or with emery paper.

What is the closest size Lee makes which is still smaller than the size you want?

take a drill with a rod, attach some 300 grit emery paper and have it at, make have to polish for 20-40 min but it can be done this way

I recently opened up a Lee sizer die for one of our forum members, it was .429" and he wanted .432". It took about 10 minutes using emory and crocus cloth. Lee dies are not hardened much.

..............Gerald, if that die HAS to have that extra half a thousandth, use 600, or better yet 800 or 1000 grit paper. The area to be opened up is a very narrow band and you don' thave to do much to get .0005" off of it. Be sure to oil the paper and polish for maybe 5 seconds, then slug it. I don't know what type of measuring devices you have, but I certainly hope it's more then a dial caliper:-)

I opened a .329 sizer to .331+ in exactly 200 rolls using 220 grit paper and a 22 cal steel cleaning rod. It's not hard to go too far, so measure frequently and turn the die end for end every 50 rolls or so to try and avoid any taper.

I'd start with 600 grit and only a few turns. You're going to knock the rough spots off and the diameter will change quickly at first; then slower once it gets smoother. If 600 is taking too long, then switch to 400 for a bit. And back to 600 to finish.

My brother, the machinist, refers to this as "sandpaper on a stick technology".
