Teflon anybody?

Has anybody ever tried 'patching' bullets with that white Teflon plumbers tape you buy at the hardware store for preventing leaks on water/gas fittings rather than the traditional paper?

In my naieviety as a BP shooter,....I have just bought my first BP gun after 30 years of being a 'non smoking shooter!....... Teflon tape is cheap, it's slippery/self lubing so should be good going down the bore, it has very good heat resistant properties, it could be easily wrapped onto a bullet.....(from the bottom to the front end of the bullet so the overlaps are in the correct orientation to stop it being peeled back in the bore).......well, it seems to make sense to me!

Use it all the time, not only for BP but for my 45/70 with a 405 HB. Takes a lot of time but it works fine. If the boolit is a little small I use the teflon to make up the difference.

Wrap so that the twist tightens the tape instead of unravelling it. Gianni

Freightman, Do the bullets out of your 459-405-HB Lee Mould weigh 405 gr? The heaviest I can get mine is only 385 gr with soft lead. Ron

Here is a picture of 429244 before and after sizing to .4322. Loaded with 53gr of H335 in the 444 takes them to 2080fps.

Clean bore, fouled bore, cold bore; no first shot flyers! Confidence is there, I'm hunting with these this season.

I have tried tape but have went back to paper. Better accuracy, more velocity, and I can use a softer alloy with out gas checks.
