I have a 90384 DC Mold 456-220-1R (44 Ruger Old Army) coming back from Lee, they replaced the handles due to the fact one was cracked, I purchased the molds in a take all buy here in Reno.
So whats this mold for? whats the 44 Ruger Old Army mean? its a .456 but called a 44? or 1844?
just curious

The Ruger Old Army is a black powder revolver. If you can find one, it's a real nice gun.
this quote is from Wikipedia.
"The Ruger Old Army is a black-powder percussion revolver introduced in 1972 by the Sturm, Ruger company. The revolver is unusual in that, unlike most percussion revolvers on the market, it was not based on a historical design, but was a modification of Ruger's Blackhawk model,[1] which was itself based upon the cartridge-firing Colt Peacemaker. The revolver accordingly incorporates many modern design features, though employing antiquated black-powder component loading.

Although this design was built around the Blackhawk, it takes its styling cues from the Remington Model 1858 cap and ball pistol. Earlier models listed as .44 caliber, later as .45, but all use a .457” round balls or .454” conical bullets of pure lead."

I have in a Rossi 45 Colt lever action. That doesn't necessarily mean it is the best choice. The 454 sized seemed to shoot a bit better than sized to 452 in my Rossi. I shot up the remaining castings I had already sized to 452 in a 1911. Surprisingly the pure lead 452's shot very accurately in mild 45 ACP loads. There are better choices but if it is the only 45 cal mold you currently have there is no reason I can think of not to use it.

Some may argue or comment with good reasons I should say. Only flat point bullets should be loaded in a lever action's tubular magazine. I would never consider a pointed bullet in a tube mag but I've shot a few hundred round nose in my Rossi. I haven't had a mis-hap yet. Don't know if I'd push my luck in a hard recoiling lever action in 454 Casull. Rather than risk it, simply don't put more than one in the tube mag.

well thats why I was asking you guys because the only 45 I have is a kimber 4inch 1911, so if i were to sell or trade the mold I did not know how or who to ask or how to sell it or trade it not knowing what could shoot it, granted the Ruger Old Army is a nice pistol I looked it up after it was mentioned above.
I know a couple of cowboy action shooters and they swear by round nose in a lever, say they have shot millions with no trouble.
