Well before he started writing for Shooting Times Skelton wrote an article in the Gun Digest about a sort of survival kit. It contained the necessities for reloading in an army surplus bag. I would like to see the article again and I have the Gun Digest on discs, but I can't recall even the approximate year of the publication. I'm curious to see if he had included a 310 tool among his gear. Can anybody suggest the date of the article?

The 310 tool was the focus of that article. His kit was for the 38/357 and included the tool, dies, powder and primers in a surplus canvas tool bag.

There is another article where he muses over the best handgun choice in case it is necessary to "bug out" in case of emergency. He considers everything he has, then chooses the .357 magnum revolver for all the right reasons. He goes into great detail about his reloading kit in a surplus military tool roll. I can't find it on line, but I do have a copy of it in "Handgun Hunting" by JD Jones and Larry Kelly. He made his case so perfectly that I have always recommended 4 inch 357 mag revolvers to anyone whos looking for their first handgun. Nowdays, nobody asks anymore, they just buy a 9mm of dubious quality and never shoot it anyway.

Ben, that's it. The Gun Digest version has illustrations but the text seems the same. Thanks

Had not seen this Skeeter article, thanks Ben! Printed it out. Have a couple of notebooks full of articles that I find of interest, that I will pass on to my heirs someday, as they will probably not be available in years to come.

Great article! I loved his writing style, very laid back and casual. Bet he would have been a great guy to sit around a camp fire with.

Thanks for posting this. Made my day.
