So, it's known that the base extension on the BFR will mark up the barrel under recoil. Any way to remove this?

I'm planning on cutting that part off since it wont be needed for a bushnell TRS-25 which I'm gonna try. But that little love mark is there. Anything I can do?

I'm going to pick up my first BFR (44 Rem Mag) in a couple of weeks, and I'm very interested in learning more about this. Would you please describe it more fully, and maybe post a photo?

Thanks, Tom

Yes, Scotch-Brite. Rub in the direction of the original polish.

Same whether short cylinder or long:

recoil whips the base into the barrel. Leaves a mark. I'll have to take photos later if I have time. Next few days are busy.

I don't think steel wool will touch it. The Scotch-Brite pads are indeed the recommended tool for touching up as far as I know. I believe F/A says to use the red pads to duplicate the factory finish.

No steel wool on stainless. Tiny particles can imbed and cause rust. Yes a stainless gun can rust, not the same as kitchen knives.

thanks guys :)

since I'm giving the bushnell TRS25 a go, I don't need the extra length on the base. Will never be a magnified gun anymore, just seems to make sense to cut down the length. Actually in both directions, so I can leave the irons on there, too. center the red dot right over and between the two remaining screws. I strongly suspect it'll hold up fine.
