I know it can be done. My guess would be to not draw them
down no more that 0.005 - 0.010" at each step.
Jackets will need to be annealed between each drawing.

Getting the draw die won't be cheap, but if you have a TON of then you may recoup the cost of the dies.

Maybe better off swapping/selling to get to .308 eh?

Shouldn't take much at all. I imagine they are .010 thick? Probably accomplish drawing it down with 2 or at most 3 draw dies.

what is the OD on a 44 jacket? maybe .450????

you want to draw from .450 to 0.308... lots of draws and anneals to get there, imo... but i think it is possible...

here i went from 9mm (.380) to .280 in 6 draws:

edit: curiosity got the better of me, for 44 mag the max OD for the case is 0.457, but the rim OD is 0.514... drawing is possible but it will take some work.. why not use 9mm? these cases are abundant and cheap, i stockpile 500 at a time for $20 and can make, or will be able to make, 7mm, .308, .40SW, and 10mm out of them

I assume OP is talking about commercial 44 cal jackets? not a piece of 44 mag brass.

LOL! buying or using a commercial jacket isn't even part of my thought processes because i am such a cheapazz :) still though, you are going from 0.428 or so down to .308, pretty good draw down

Commercial jackets, or at least the ones I have seen from RCE are thin and very easy to draw down. I took .400 jackets down to .338 in one draw with ease. Certainly a .428ish thin jacket should be able to draw down just as easily.

So here is the skinny... I have over 6000 44 commercial jackets and another 3500 half jackets. I would like to get them to .308 or 30 cal. I wonder though that it is cost effective to acquire the draw dies and try to do them on a manual press or sub them out to bullet maker 57 who said he'd fit them on the hydro.
What would i need to make them on my own and would it be worth it? I have seen the prices of some of the 308 jackets lately and yowza! It hurts to shoot these days...
Please fill me in!

I'm all worked out on the jackets. Thanks for the interest.
