A few pic's of the deer I got last weekend. It was taken with my Browning Model 71, with a 220gr LBT bullet cast out of straight wheel-weight at 2100fps. Bullet pulped both lungs and it only went a few yards before piling up. I used the same bullet last year only with a soft point boolit and it proved to be a bit more destructive than I needed so I will probably stick with plain W-W in the future and not bother with the whole soft point thing.

Wow! Nice looking buck. How much did it dress out at? I hunted Maine a couple years ago, it was too warm, saw only does.

Deer dressed out to 155lbs, not a giant but a good sized buck for the part of the state I live in. I decided not to mount him, though after skinning and removing the antlers I think that I should have.

Nice looking deer he should eat good. Congratulations on making meat with a boolit.

How did you "catch" those small critters in the picutres with the buck? Did you bait them or hunt on a trail near a bedding area?[smilie=1:

Here are couple photo's of the LBT bullet I use. The two bullets that are basically just shanks were softpointed and heat treated/water dropped. As you can see the soft noses just expanded and wiped off causing a lot of damage and then the hardened bases continued on through the animals. These were shot head on deer and the bases that you see were recovered in the hindquarters, so they penetrated the length of the animal, the entrance wounds were huge, fist sized holes. The other boolit that has the nice mushroom shape was straight wheel weight. It is amazing what can be done just by altering the alloy a little bit.

Jwhite, that's a nice buck no matter where you're from in Maine. It seems like the deer up in my country may be bigger bodied, but the "downstate" bucks have much nicer racks. Congratulations.
My nephew has an old Winchester 71 and I've tried to talk him into trying cast boolits in. No luck though.

Congrats on the nice buck. That gift of meat will go a long ways in feeding your lovely family. Sure feels good to be self reliant doesn't it.:Fire:

I just returned from a 2 week trip to Maine. We hunted around Patton and shermaan Mills. All I saw were a couple does. My wife saw a "giant" deer while riding in the car going to the grocery store. She doesn't hunt so I told her "it doesn't count if you don't have a gun"!! NICE deer!
