Hey there boolit-heads..

How come i never see anything around here about 243's ??? I have a old rem mdl 788. I am sure that not too many folks cast for then considering their speed and such, but i would like to try and play around with it some... Any suggestions of molds and loads would be greatly appreciated, as well as any suggestions or tips for success would be awesome... I am sure that it will take one of our resident rocket scientists to chime in here, as, well, the 243 is a bit of a rocket......

Thanks in advance for your thoughts....

I only have used one mold in 243 Lyman 245496. Works best in my gun at 1850fps. Load is 20.5gr IMR4895 + pinch of Dacron filler, ACWW, Felix lube in 3 grooves. If I seat the bullet to touch, the base extends past the neck and accuracy suffers (short throat). I had to make a die for the arbor press that squeezes enough driving bands to land diameter to put the gas check at the bottom of the neck. Sort of makes a bore-rider type bullet. Cuts group size by more than half. Averages 1 1/4" at 100 yards.

Start with 12 gr 2400 and go to 14. I have used this with a Ly 244496 and the RCBS 95 gr. Stop when accuracy tells you to, great paper puncher.
