What bore diameter can I expect from Rock Island 1911 45acp? I'm hoping that it is a .452 because that seems to be the most common mold size in this caliber. With my luck, everything I own tends to want a customer mold... I just ordered the gun from Budsgunshop.com. They had it on sale for $329! I jumped on it like a quarterback on a cheerleader!

Now I'm thinking of all the other **** I gotta buy... mold, dies, sizing die... sheeesh. Why can't I just shoot factory ammo like the other guys???

It will depend on the broach used to do the rifling. A new broach will produce a larger bore, and a worn one will produce a smaller bore, but not by much.

Your best bet is to slug the bore once you have the pistol in your hands and know for sure.

Hope this helps.

as others said, no way to know... my RIA 9mm slugs at .357. Not only does that not help in the slightest lol but wanted to+1 on the "slug it" idea.

Thanks for the heads up on Buds. I just ordered a Tactical RIA for $349.00. The one I have is an excellent pistol, and I thought it was a bargain at $450, a year or two ago.

.452 will more than likely work.

Most likely .444 to .446" if it's average.

What you're looking for is groove diameter. Bore diameter is land to land.

Hopefully I can pick this gun up next week. I'll slug away! thanks guys.

We have several RIA's in the family, they are all .451" and shoot .452" perfectly.

I was under the impression that cast pistol bullets were supposed to be 0.001" over groove diameter anyway.

Thundermaker,

Cast boolits are 'supposed' to be whatever size at, under, or over that works with the firearm in question. Really. Not being sarcastic here.

Under rarely works out well, but you never know until you try. I run a Lyman 375449 in my 38-55 that is just at or a tiny bit under bore diameter and it does not lead and shoots very well out of my rifle. This wasn't by my choice, it's just the way things worked out. I didn't think it would work but it did!

Welcome to the forum too.
