Just got home from hitting a few rummage sales bought at least 2 pounds of W571 for 2 bucks. ANy rifle cast use for this or is it shotgun or maybe pistol only? I weighed the 3 pound can when I got home and it said 2.5 pounds so there is over 2 pounds, but them cans they must not fill very full as it did not look half full yet the powder weighed that much. If I cannot find a use for it for two bucks I am not out much. :)

I have used it in a 38 Special load with the 358429 and have had some success. Mostly I have used it with heavy 10 gauge loads and the Winchester buffered 1.5 ounce load for the 12 gauge. It is a fairly dense powder so that is why the canisters were not too full. About ¾ full is par for the course with this powder. Good-luck with your find…BCB

Hi jh, From what I've read Win 571 and HS-7 are the same, as are Win540 and HS-6. There is some loading data for the HS powders in the larger pistol calibers. I've only ever used it in heavy 12 guage loads. Mel

Well went with a sure thing the guy at the gun shop said he would trade me something for it so I traded for 50 Remington 308 Spitzer soft point corelocts. He wanted 8 bucks for them and I paid two for the powder so I made out anyway and he figured it was a good trade. After I looked in a couple of reloading guides I thought this was a better deal as I have a use for the bullets. Thanks for the info anyway guys. I also went back to where I got the powder to see if the guy had a box of shotgun shells still left. It was a case gard 100 box with 41 AA extra light 7.5 trap loads in it and 42 assorted steel and Lead BB shot shells. I priced the case and they sell for 14 now the gun shop guy said the one I have sold for 10 so I got 83 shotshells for 4 bucks I figure. Sweet. :)

JH45: I'm still shooting some in 357 mag, water dropped 158 RF and 9.5 grs does 1066 fps, accuracy is good. Still marketed by Hodgdon as HS-7
