Does anyone know what 40mm practice bullets are? I have a half a dozen of the metal parts and hope they could be smelted down for casting boolits.

they do metal near the same temp as lead.

Never mind, it's zinc and I found it.

I thought they were made of rubber (for riots) LOL.

These are the orange dust filled, blue capped rounds.

Anyone need a few pounds of zinc? I'd be happy to trade for lead.

While on this subject, I also have some 20mm. They have turned flaky and orange, I think they are rusting. Anyone know if 20mm is all steel or steel cased, or something else entirely?

I think the cannon folks use Zinc for cannon ball molding.

You might think about not fooling with that military ordnance it will make the tinsel faerie look like a non event.

Amen on the military ordnance.

Some of the 40mm had a small charge to create a puff of dust to mark the hit. Makes it real interesting in a pot.

The 20mm stuff is another can of worms. No lead there to salvage and some really exotic flavors of fillers. Don't even look at that stuff. Problem is that you can't tell what it is as its been made all over the world by various folks.

The only thing I'd salvge off a military range is .38 and .45 bullets./beagle

I was just hoping it might be useable since it is so plentiful. It would be a shame if I let it go to waist if it was useful. It's not actually a military range, a company that manuf's barrels or rounds comes out to this range to do testing. They bring thier brass back with them, so they possibly load or make rounds in house.
