Looking for a load for the Lyman 243 grain 8mm Mauser. Would like 1800-2000 fpc. Thanks and God bless.

If you cannot make up you mind, try 38 grains of 4350 and work DOWN if accuracy or recoil is not where you are happy. ... felix

..............What kind of powders do ya have? Got any surplus WC852 slow? It's about like 4831. I did a 240gr Lee GB 8mm slug, below:

Thought I needed 2300 fps and used WC852 slow. Worked the load up, beating myself up in the process and managed to put a split in the wrist of the Turk M38/46 I was using. I did get the 2300 fps and accuracy at 50 yards was 1.5".

Your Lyman boolit (if it's the one I'm thinking of) may or may not shoot for you. Is it that real long nosed one with just the 2 drive bands? (IIRC)

I'll pile on for the Buckshot Heavy 8mm. Shoots quite well in my G98/40, but comes back at you rather vigorously compared to the usual run of 170-180 grain slugs.

Buckshot's 240 gr. launches at almost 1900 fps over 29 gr. IMR 4198, with an ES of 18 and SD of 7. Accuracy is all one can expect from issue sights. Recoil? Look at Buckshot's avatar.

37 grains (I can't remember right now whether that's the 2.8cc or 3.1cc Lee dipper) of IMR 7383 will do exactly what you ask. I use that with the 8mm Maximum boolit that weighed 253 grains as I cast it, checked. Runs ~1750-1825 FPS in my various old milsurps of varying barrel length. Mild pressures, primer indentations are very rounded, extraction is slick.

Been trying to get this bullet to shoot off and on for 35 years. I guess I'm just stubborn cause here we go again. Going to go with lino and slow powders this time. thanks for all the good info.

..............Is this the boolit (#1)?

If it is, then good luck. I'll take your name and pray for ya :-)!

Just started to play with one that is similar to the Lyman.

Have only tried about 10 round loaded with A2400 out of a GEW 88.
Got about a 2" Group at 50 yards.

Will be very interested in what you come up with.

With a Lee 170 Cast round in a 98/22 CZ Mauser over 13 gr of Red Dot I get good groups with minimal recoil @ 1600 FPS. This load will work with any .30 cal military round across the board. Up the weight of powder and play with it to achieve your purposes.
