I'm looking for opinions. I want to use the Redding Carbide 3-Die Set. But is it necessary to purchase the extra Redding profile crimp die. I reload both 44 Mag and 45 Auto rim.

The profile crimp die only comes with the Redding PRO series die set ! around $80.00 from MIDSOUTH SS. but does no come with a expander die as this die set is made for progressive reloaders . the profile crimp die does not come with convential TC die set, the profile crimp die also be purchased seperatly@$22.00
I have 3 profile crimp dies 357,44, 454 casull and i like them !

I use the profile crimp die for my .41 magnum and my .45 AR loading and wouldn't be without them. works for me, james

Well, I have a Redding profile crimp die for a .44SPL/44MAG that I have had for years and never seen any advantage to it's use.

The standard crimp die with a typical three die set has always worked fine for me.

So, guess I could be talked out of this Redding die if someone thought they really needed it.

AS said have tried it and done so a number of times and it just never rang my bell.

I'm pretty much with the ol' coot....I've had them all and they are nice dies and work well but I never saw a difference in performance from the standard roll crimp die so I gave them all away.

I like it because it tapers and roll crimps. I haven't found one in 500 Linebaugh yet. Have one in 500 S&W, 454, 475 Linebaugh and 44 mag. I discovered PCDs in the 80s when loading 320 grain bullets in my Dan Wesson. No more cylinder lockup under recoil.

Take care

Well as I alluded to earlier, I could be talked out of mine.
