Just picked up two rollers in 43 cal. One complete and the other just a barreled action. The outside on both are a little rough but both have a decent bore( surprise). Now to decide what to make.

After shooting a 450 nitro about a year back and still suffering I'm thinking 38-55 or 40-50. I should try to finish some other projects before I do any more rollers. Got a Ballard, Frank Wesson, Phoenix, 1892, 1876, 1886 and Whitney Kennedy still waiting for me to find time to work on. Anyone in need of a 43cal. barrel?

John I have a Roller in 7 x 57 mm fun to shoot but I often thought a 38-55 would be the Cat's Meow. I have a few 94's in 38-55 and they are a joy to shoot.

John, I too have a 7x57 in a roller which is very fun to shoot...
and I agree with Mark....the 38-55 would be my choice

Never heard of a 50-45. There is a 50-50 Maynard and a 50 U.S. carbine that had 50 grains of powder and the 50 Remington pistol that had about 25 grains, is this a wildcat?
My Ballard is 38-55. Just got a set of loading dies for the 32-40 and that may be a good choice on a roller. Might cut the frame down a little to clean up the pitting and make it more like a 1&1/2. I have another frame that someone cut down way to much and it is going to be a 22LR as soon as I can find time to work on it. I have the barrel which started out as a 30" piece of DOM with a 5/8" bore. I lined it with a 16" long 22 barrel so it has a bunch of free bore but looks like a full octagon 30" barrel.

John ... dont sell that 43 short. i have 1 and everytime i start thinking about re-doing it i shoot the rounds i have loaded and immediately change my mind. this round ...[basically 44-77 other then a couple thousandths off]... is just cool to load for and shoot in both blackpowder and small doses of certain smokeless. it carry's well and loads in a 350 to 400 grain boolits that scoot rite along. i load 75 to 80 grains 2F and they are easy on the shoulder as well as doing great on target.

i think from time to time about removing enough barrel to make it a bit better to handle as im no fan of the 34 thru 36 inch barrels but ... she shoots so well now that i have not gotten the gumption to get out the saw yet.

dont know if you have any experience with the 43 Spanish but if not ... may want to delve into it a bit before going to any expense or energy before hand.

just my 1.5 cents worth.

I like the .43 Spanish, cases can be a bit of trouble to find, but once you get a hundred or so you are pretty much set for life; unless you use it for competition.

I have thought about doing a No 1 up in .40-65 for a few years, or for a lighter recoiling option the .38-56 Winchester. Both of those can be made from .45-70 brass fairly easily.

I think I have three barrels for the 43. I have thrown a lot of bad ones away over the years but if the rifling was good they stayed. Sense I make my living working on barrels I do end up with more than a few takeoffs.

Either .32-40 or 8.15x46R. Depends which side of the Atlantic you are thinking. Been reading about the 8.15x46R lately. Either BS or fixed with stop-ring slugs the way they do/did it over there.
