is it possible to enlarge a lee or lyman roundball mould? i want to take a .457 ball mould out to .460. with metal adhesive tape will the ball be symmetrical enough to be accurate? irishtoo

Yes, but it won't be round.

.003 out of round should not make much difference. Wouldn't you have to cast at cooler temps to prevent serious finning and whiskers.

That was my assumption too. Then after I tried it I found that it was not so. The moulds I have beagled have all cast pretty normal without finning. I have only ever used a single layer of tape.

The thing with a round ball is wouldn't be guaranteed of aligning the oblong ball consistently from shot to shot. I don't have an issue with an out of round conventional bullet with a nice square base, but would be concerned with round balls.

Beagle, cast, load them up and shoot. Then you will know.

If you beagle round balls, and you want them to be concentric, roll them around between two pieces of glass until the sprue is gone, and they will probably be just what you are looking for!
