I cast some .575 balls from wcww, and tried the triball recipe with 28.5 grs blue dot.
The orange wads weren't slit all the way, so used a knife to finish slitting them. The range just put up all new target stands, so I fired two without stands into the berm to check point of impact. Fired two more at targets at 25 yards.
The pattern was about 8-10". This from a cylinder bore.
The recoil was brisk!

I decided to quit before I wiped out a target stand.
Anyway, not sure what I'd use them for, but it is a cool load.
Those orange steel wads are some kind of tough! They looked like they could easily be re used!

Hello Tommag, good to learn from your experience, that TriBall load is meant as protection from Grizzly attack, up close from behind the bush, to save a life.

Hunters get attacked in a camp while sleeping in a tent, that's when up close this load is a blessing, do or die situation!

My Blazing Buck & Ball or Buck & Slug loads are also for the same purpose but will not kick as bad and will give a bit longer range like 40 to 45 yards as a Desparate Hunting load.

You could drop the charge by 2 gr and see how it feels and do report back as your experience will help others decide weather to jump into that load or not!

God is great, friends lift up and rise to the occasion and help a need family in the neighborhood and be thankful for what we got!

Feel free to read my post on faster buck shot loads here:

The smaller the pellet size gets from the base .60" caliber ball size in 12 gauge Tri-Ball loads the larger the pattern spread for a given choke. That said Tri-ball loads perform best in choke bore guns. With .60" 315 grain hard cast pellets, my Tri-Ball handloads produce <5 inch patterns at 40 yards with .695" exit diameter extended choke tube.

Indeed, 12 gauge Tri-Ball loads have many useful roles beyond fending off close range bear attacks.
