I have tried to do the math and researched the sites and threads, but cannot find an acceptable answer. I am working with a vendor who is making me a core mold for .458 socom copper jackets from tubing, but we have not finalized the core diameter.

The mathematical diameter is less than .386". I have had one of the copper jacket makers say a .359 dia. core should do it. I have seen information that copper is .375" id. for .500 od. copper pipe, not tubing. That being said, copper refrigeration tubing, not pipe, has a wall thickness of .032-.036, based on my research. The question that I have is, what is the largest diameter the core mold should be? The maximum adjustable core length will be 1.09". I know there is some one out there who has worked with 45-70 swaging and casting.

I really do not know if I am falling off the deep end with the concern for the core diameter since lead wire for .458 is .375 (3/8" dia.), or am I diving into the great abyss

Thanks for your patience and understanding,

Bill
