Greetings and Congradulations !
Well that is for sure using enough gun. Probably body slammed him to the turf.
Good looking corn cruncher you have. Bet that will be a many tasty meals to come.
Now if I could impose apon you for a few more details about the hunt when you get a chance.
Nice photo also.

Congrats, who would have thought that them non copper clad boolits would not bounce right off a deer.

Back straps wrapped in bacon under the broiler sounds real good. Good job on the Boolit deer!

Perfect eating buck, nice.
Never thought of Dr Pepper! How does it taste?
Thats the rifle I wanted but it was twice the price of the 30-30 on sale, I still want the stainless guide gun---oh well.

This is a hoax. Everyone knows you can't harvest a deer unless you are using a pointy bullet at over 3,000fps! :)

Nice deer Grim, and taken with a classic rifle in a 140 year old cartridge. Well done.

Congrats to all who have scored a "swamp donkey". I have to wait another two weeks for Ohio "gun" season and these stories are killing me. Keep them coming... congrats again.

A year and a half old 50# deer with a buffalo gun. And DRT, now that's pretty amazing.
Strange selection for both choices.
That same deer would have been 150# and an 8-10 point in another 2 years.
I hope it eats good for you.

Personally think both choices were good. I looked all through the recipe forum and couldn't even find one for horns. lol

"That same deer would have been 150# and an 8-10 point in another 2 years."

Maybe it would have and maybe it wouldn't have. No way to tell.

I'm having a hard time believing you could so openly run this guy down for a legal, ethical successful hunt. I suppose every animal you ever killed was a world record Boone and Crocket buck that you killed with your bare hands, is that it? Maybe you should have just kept quiet if you couldn't think of something positive or encouraging to say.

TheGrimReaper, good job. A rewarding experience and a good animal taken with a good weapon. Doesn't get any better than that.

Nicely done! That is a nice looking whitetail. Should make for some good eats.

Looks like a good eater. I shot an old toothless buck with less antler than that a couple years ago. I had really strong jaw muscles before I had that one ate.

Unless there are plans to have it put on the wall, a 1 1/2 year old buck is about the best choice for getting a good quantity of good taender venison. I try to take a few does but they are usually 30% or so smaller than a young buck.

And depending on your area you have no control of the other side of the fence. A buck is a buck is a buck.

Yea, I know he's not the biggest. But I didn't get anything for the past 2 years and the deers need to be thinned out here. I am going after youngins for the freezer now.

Congrats! I love my 1895, taken a few with it. Mine in 450 marlin. Now you want them all to be cast boolit kills right?

Grendel99
11-27-2013, 09:07 PM
Great job! I really want one of those 45-70 Marlins  Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can not shoot. I like antlers too, but like everyone has said, you can't eat them! Well done with the cast bullet. I am a little confused though, you said you haven't killed a deer in two years before this one but that the deer need to be thinned out??? Did you just not hunt the last two years?

And, the whole neck can be slow cooked in a Crock-Pot, then pulled off da' bone and make Chili, or any other meat dish.
