High desert, cold winters, not too bad summers, 30 miles from Laughlin NV for gambling, 100+ to Las Vegas - actually, a nice place.

Its pretty well laid out . There's no roam through phone net service you have to buy time. Fair rooms decent gas prices. It looks like lots of price competition Lowes/HD , Napa/O'riles/Auto Zone. I've only been through the 40/93/95 corridoors.

I know this is kind of silly. In the early 70's as an outside salesman selling auto and truck parts. Around the first of the month I'd leave Phx at about 4:30 AM and arrive in Kingman about 8:00. I would literally kill time in Kingman because they had by far the best Mexican food restaurant in the entire state. I'd kill time if necessary to be there at 11:00 when they began serving lunch to get my deep fried, enchilada style green chili burro, chili relano and shredded beef taco. I don't even remember the name of the place but I'll never forget the food!!

I think you're right as I have a vague recollection of the train station before the propane explosion. I was only there a few times afterward.

I remember the mining as I'd have to visit the purchasing agent for Duvall. I was trying but mostly unsuccessfully to steal their truck parts business from a Las Vegas suppliers. I had to bribe his secretary to get appointments and if I was lucky I'd have to wait at least 2 hours after the appointed time. I never managed to get much of their business.

That's darn sure a lot nicer temperature range than here. I doubt I'll ever move from this area, but would be nice if the weather didn't just beat on you so much of the year.

Never been to Kingman, but I've liked what I've seen of Arizona and like the southwest in general.

Is Kingman a destination for the "almost 3 strikes your out" kind of people? I've heard that they tend to move slightly east of California so they can be close to their crime compadres. I've been to Phoenix and my cousin states that some of the increase in population is due to this phenomenom. I am looking to move to AZ from CO during CO's winter and would really not like to live close to these kinds of people. Coconino Cnty and the areas east and SE of it, is where we are looking to buy a small winter home [to cast in;)].

armexman, you along with 10's of thousands of others can come to Az annually during the winter months. If you settle into an area with similar minded people (aka snowbirds) chances are you will not be annoyed by the bad guys from the left coast. There are literally towns of RV's and travel trailers in certain areas that become ghost towns as the weather warms. Keep in mind, anybody that can legally buy or possess a firearm can carry concealed in Arizona without a permit. There are plenty more good-guys here than low-lifes. Just look for an area predominately populated by elderly or retirees and you wont have to deal with the trash.

The Coconino county area does have some pretty cold temps in the winter in the higher elevations. Unless you are of the 1960's hippy mentality, into UFO's, new age religion or wife swapping avoid the Sedona area. A business set-back and health problems forcing an early retirement ruined my plans on becoming a snowbird. I'm stuck here in the Phx area but do spend some time up in northern Az into higher elevations in the summer months.

I live in a small place just south of Prescott, around 5000' nice quiet community, not bad winters, nice summers and ten minutes to shooting and hunting. Half hour drive to shopping and medical etc. Most folks are friendly but keep to themselves.

I avoid the Prescott area. To close to J&G, a very dangerous place to visit with a credit card in your wallet!! BS aside the Prescott area is near perfect in my opinion. I've read the owner of J&G is catching some flack from new neighbors complaining about his shooting. As we could all guess, his new neighbors are from the left coast.

I love Kingman. It is the first place I go to in Arizona when I visit. Love the diner off Rt.66 just up from the big water tower next to the train station. I will be retiring in this area when the time comes. For now I am stuck in New York until then.

There is someone there who has several of the very old Tri-Standard reloading presses. I've often been tempted to drive over just to see them but...

An interesting local. Close to Las Vegas. Hot in summer. Not all that cold in winter.

In Kingman, do the vultures still gather to roost in the park at sundown?

Great rockhounding in the area not to mention a little gold prospecting. The buffets at Laughlin are quite good and the trout fishing there near the casino's can be pretty good in winter before the striped bass fishing begins as the water warms.
