View Full Version : Ruger SR40C
Did some more trading yesterday and picked up a SR40C. It shoots pretty darn good for a compact. The gun runs 100% with JHP 180 gr. The 9 rnd mag. ran 100% on my 175 LEE TL and Red Dot loads. The 15 rnd mag. coughed a time or two. Going to shoot it some more today. I'm a Glock guy but I think this is a pretty decent gun. I could do without the thumb safety but it's OK I guess.
I polished the feed ramp, and went out yesterday. 16 degrees out so I didn't spend a lot of time shooting. It ran 100 rnds of my 175 TL and Red Dot out of both mags. Then I ran a box and a half of Ultramax 180 FMJ. The FMJ was all one hand, draw and point shoot into a paper plate at 5 feet. I cant say its a fun gun to shoot, a little snappy on recoil. But no worse than any other compact. I had a couple malfunctions that were cleared up by tapping the bottom of the mag. I think polishing the bolt face will fix that.

Yes, I had to Polish everything in my sr40c. After that everything works with no issues using a variety of ammo.

I polished the bolt face and chamber last night. Going to shoot it again today.

My middle son has the same pistol, how many grains of RD are you running behind that 175gr Lee? I have the same mold and some new RD to use in it. My oldest son has the pistol while middle son is in Afghanistan, one of Uncle Sams Misguided Children.
I been using 3.5 of Red Dot nice mild load. About 850 FPS if I remember right. I been shooting the SR40C a lot. I hate to admit it but I like it better than the Glock 27.

FWIW, I load 4.0 RD under a 170-180 grain bullet, for about 900 fps. Don't know what the pressure is, but a guy at Alliant told me it was safe up to a max of 5.0 grains.
