Hey Guys,

I am looking for a plinking load for my Charles Daly Mini Mauser in 7.62X39. Boolits available are Wilbird's 314-120 GB and an Ideal 313445 95 grain SWC cast from wheel wheel weights.

I have trimmed, whittled and sanded the stock until it feels almost like an old 22. I'm not quite there yet; will work more on it after deer season is over. I am thinking about a load with as near to zero recoil as I can get but still be pop can accurate at 50-75 yards.

I have sluggd the barrel and it measured .313" so I am going to order a .314 sizing die. Lube will be Felix Lube.

Lyman's Cast Bullet Hanbook doesn't ave anything listed for the 7.62X39. This isn't supprising considering it was written in 1980; and the only 7.62X39's I am aware of in the US at that time were a few SKS bringbacks. Right now I am leaning towards starting at 3.0 grains of Gren Dot for the 95 grain 313445. Does this sound reasonable? I have not been able to find any reduced loads for lighter than normal bullets.

I want these loads for my daughter (hopefully), and my niece to practice with.

Thanks

Robert

For a good 7.62 soviet boolit try the Lee 312-155 and 160 TL and try 3-5 grs of Bullseye. I shoot the 155 in my rifles with 6.0 grs of bullseye without the gas check with excellent results out to 100M ,Zero recoil and very little noise, accurate and just plain fun to shoot and very economical too!!!

I believe when I tried the bull about 4grs. gave me good results as far as a light non cycling load with a 155 or 160gr. boolit --- Mag_01

I shoot a ton of Lee TL314-90-SWC (or you can use the Hornady 90 gr .32 swaged lead bullet) over 2.7 gr of Bullseye out of my 7.62x39 InterArms Mini MKX. I cast the bullets (6 cavity mould) out of any scrap alloy, lightly tumles lune in LLA and run through a Lee .314" sizer base first. I use R-P cases which use SR primers but that load works fine in W-W or IMI cases with CCI standard LP primers. I shoot so many of this load i load them on a Dillon 550B. Actually I should say my wife shoots most of them, I just get to do the loading and rifle cleaning. Velocity is 840 fps. My rifle has a 4x scope on it and that load will group into 1 - 1.5" groups all day. They do surprisingly well at 200 yards also. I have fired 200+ rounds in one day without cleaning and had zero leading. Excellent plinking and small game load with no recoil and very little muzzle blast.

I have also shot several different commercial cast SWCs of 95 gr wieght. As long as these were .313 -314" they shot well over 3 gr of Bullseye. I did lightly tumble them in LLA though. Without the LLA they would lead in the throat because of the hard wax lube. Most often I just washed the commercial lube off with Coleman Fuel and either relube with Javelina in the 450 or tumble with LLA. With either method there was no leading.

Thanks for the replies, it sounds like Bullseye is the way to go.

I probably going to get a six cavity mold like Larry's when I get enough cases to make it worthwhile. My old Ideal is a single cavity.

Thanks,

Robert
