hey guys I impulse bid on a set of parts advertised as " old original muzzle loader" the pictures I saw looked old but whatever.
Anyway, the stuff is in my hands now, No wood and no history clue's provided. to ME ( untrained unfamiliar... little better than a guess) it looks like an old fowler, or maybe even a trade gun, possibly two or more guns. trigger guard is a little fancy for a trade gun, everything else is kinda plain for a fowler.... Maybe an old plain low end Fusile ? I dunno, but Please every one take a look and let me know what you think! ( I also believe it is a later conversion to cap )

here is a link to a photo album on my Facebook page.... don't worry, it should just take you to a web page of pictures.

clicking any of the pictures brings it up larger, and provides a comment of what the picture is off or details if I know any.

Thank YOU !

If you want us to see the stuff, do not use Facebook. Put them here!

Thanks,

banger

Should not have to be a "facebooker" anymore than you have to be a "photobucketer" there are 35 rather high res photo's and I did not feel the administrators would approve of me putting them here. (if I even can).....I guess I will have to Link each photo individually ......erggggg.

I would say it's parts from an old caplock, not flint, Belgium gun. Hope you didn't pay much, I still see complete guns for around $150-200.

Waksupi, no I did not pay much ( no more than I was willing to risk with out knowing anything ) it was more shipping than I paid for the gun, Did you see the complete album ? Do you think all of the parts go together and what about the extra filled holes on the lock plate ? Can you Guess at the time frame ?

It looks like the belgium stuff you see out there. I think waksupi is right on the money with that. I have no idea the year.

the filled holes could possibly be from the lock bein' converted from flint to cap?

In addition the drum and nipple on the one barrel are new made stuff. Looks to me like stuff Dixie use to sell as OLD parts. If the bores are smooth and the breeches aren't rusted out you can make a nice fowler out of the parts.

Thanks guys, a fowler would not be bad, that is kind of the direction I was leaning. It is going to get "re-converted" to flint though.

I missed the fillers first time, so no doubt a conversion at some time. WAG for time, mid 1800's.
I kind of wonder if that butt plate went with the rest of those parts.

Or the trigger guard? It shows no indication of contact with the trigger plate...... Unless it was deeply inset I would suspect something. There is hints of straight rifling in the rusty dirty bore.... I am tempted to reconvert the lock, toss the entry pipe and trigger guard and build a bad trade gun.... I dunno what to do, maybe use it all and build a weird little shotgun. (or with the sites, maybe a "smooth rifle")

If you toss the parts, toss them towards me! I've got a collection of oddities to do some kind of gun with eventually.

Some of those parts look hand made. It looks like almost everything is there, just soak it in some evaporust for awhile.
