My wife made me a hat....

My awesome wife made me a fur hat... And i just need to share it with ya..

She used beaver fur for the outside, and left the ears and face on top... On the inside, it is all lynx with the tail left on poking out the back.... It is the warmest hat that i have every had. I provided the furs.... She also made me a awesome pillow for our bed... I must have done something right for the Lord to provide me with a beautiful Angel to take care of my needs... I am truly blessed.

Very very impressive A G. I have a hand made beaver hat, trooper style, that I won in a drawing in a bar at King Salmon Ak. It is so warm, the outside temp here has to be at least down to 10 degrees or lower to wear it. My compliments to your wife sir.

Beautiful hat. Just curious, why do you leave fur on the outside. It looks like that would hold moisture and weigh you down. I get it about the fur on the inside.

I can tell you why jaysouth, first of all, we get a lot of rain and slushy snow here, and beaver is pretty waterproof, and also, cuz she wanted to and it looks cool... He he... Its like asking why do you get a new paint job on your favorite ride? Cuz it just looks good.... No offense meant Jay..

Thanks guys, for all the compliments on my hat... My wife is really good at crafts, and makes awesome felted hats too, but that was her first try at fur sewing... Believe me, it took her about a week to complete, and she gave a lot of blood to that hat... Should have heard her cussing every time she stuck herself with a straight pin... After a while and 20 or 30 pokes, she got pretty grumpy about it... But she hung in there and finished it, and gave me a gift that i will never part with. I hope to pass it on to my son.... Along with that pillow... I gotta tell you, that pillow is so freaking soft.. it feels sooooo good against my balding head.... I hope to be buried with it.... :)

Yeah, it's gotta be cold to wear such a Hat. I have a Marten fur hat made by my cousin in Aniak back in '97 when I visited, Fur outside and calfskin inside, I can only wear that if it's Below Zero.
OH, ALSO, I'm waiting for some cold weather to try out my CAT fur hat, that I picked up in Sept at the local gunshow...I posted a photo in another thread.

OMG... That is way toooooo funny Jon....

I forgot to tell you guys, there was a catch to the wife making those goodies for me.... I had a pretty good pile of about 25 beaver furs, and 8 lynx.... And our bargin was that after she made the pillow and hat, that she could do whatever she wanted with the rest of the fur pile, with the exception of 2 very large lynx, and 2 coyotes that are hanging on the wall... So she got about 20 nice beavers and several good lynx outta the project. And i got a couple of family heirlooms ....

Gorgeous hat! Compliments to your determined wife for sticking it out and getting it finished. It never gets cold enough for me to wear one like that either, but it would be a joy to have.

you could go buy her a thimble from the dollar store.
I might be mistaken but as I recall they use them to protect your fingers from being poked by needles.
or make her one from saaay a piece of 22-250 brass.

Lol at fiver... Well, i asked the same thing fiver... She had a thimble and used it..... But she says that it was during the actual attaching part that she got stuck most of the time... And not every finger was covered... She says that it happened when she was pinning the thing together.... With the thick fur, she couldn't see everything and had to go by feel... She never gets poked with normal material. Just the fur cuz you just don't have clear line of sight.
