I just casted up some C358-158 SWC with gas checks. I want to load them up for hunting next week, I plan to run them between 1500 and 1800 fps. Will the 45/45/10 hold up to that?

I've been looking at pan lubing but can't seem to get a kake cutter to go over my boolits. I've got some 38 spcl cases to use, but I do not know how to expand them to fit over the boolits.

If I could get the kake cutter to work, I would make some Ben's Red, Simple green or 50/50 bees wax and Alox.

What do you folks think?

Thanks

I failed to mention, we will be shooting these from a Ruger 77/357 and a Rossi 92.

Thanks.

I shoot the same boollit with my version of 45/45/10 (I can't get JPW in Aus so I use a carnauba polish instead) out of a 77/357 with acceptable accuracy.

They are sized to .358 and loaded up with 14.5gr of ADI AR2205 giving around 1450fps with zero leading. This is the first and only load so far as I have'nt had time to experiment.

I shoot a 125gr with a max load of h110 in my 6" gp100 with absolutely zero leading.

This load is super accurate and have shot 200+ rounds at a time with accuracy loss.

With 40-40-10 lube

I've used it with full power H110 loads in a Marlin 1894C and had no leading. I wouldn't hesitate to use it if it's all I had.

Thanks for the info, I just tumble lubed them again after sizing. I hope to get to load them and shoot tomorrow or the next day, fingers crossed for no leading. Hunting season starts next Monday and I really need to get this rifles dialed in.

Well it isn't quite a 357, but I have pushed the Lee 452-300RF up to a touch over 1700fps from my 454 using 45/45/10 with no ill effects to the barrel.

I personally had some lasting effects, but the barrel was clean as it is when I shoot my normal loads through it.

Good luck with your hunting.

I shoot that bullet with 40-40-10 in front of max loads of 2400 in a rifle, no leading.

I just gotta ask ;) Those of you using 40-40-10, what's the secret 10%?

Thanks, hendere.

paul h, are you asking about the 45/45/10 or the 40-40-10?

Make your Kake Kutter from a 35 Remington case! Works the best for 38 & 357 mag boolits

JWFilips, thanks. I will keep that in mind, I think I am going to get a couple from Buckshot though.

Thanks again, my Nephew shot his first deer this year with a neighbors Marlin 336 in 35 Rem. I couldn't talk him out of the fired case, it's his souvenir.

I figured it was a typo and I was just :kidding:

I made up my first batch of 45-45-10 the other night, though it was likely more along the lines of 43-7-50. Close enough and can't wait to try them.

Well I have shot over 50 rounds now with it and no problems, no odor or smoke either. I have no chronograph so I'm not sure of the FPS, but I'm shooting them over 14 of 2400. Not sure now that I want to lube them any other way as this is so easy. That is unless I could improve the accuracy by pan lubing.

I doubt you'll see an improvement in accuracy with pan lubing. So long as you aren't getting leading, and 50 rds is enough to tell you one way or the other, then I'd stick with the tl. My preference when casting is to get the most performance with the minimal amount of effort. If you can get the results you are after with tl, don't try to out think what is working for you.

I've been looking at pan lubing but can't seem to get a kake cutter to go over my boolits.

go to the local value store and get a used golf club... start at the narrow end and keep shortening until you have the perfect fit... and KakeCut away

paul h, I agree.

nanuk, thanks for the suggestion.
