Anyone tried this combo? Have any of you had any luck with TB and the '06? Not sure where to start here. This is my first casting for a rifle and I have a few lbs of TB.

I am open for other powder suggestions as well. I am not looking for high velocity, more of a plinker load. My barrel is 1 in 10 twist 25 inches long.

Thanks

Ben

I've shot a lot of plain base .30 cal. cast bullets. I've had good luck with a lot of powders, unfortunately when I tried TB , it ended up with only average and sub-average groups when compared to other powders like Bullseye, Unique, Herco, American Select, and International Clays.

Take a look at this :

I'm not saying you won't find what you're looking for with TB. I am saying I never did.

While I don't have any plain base boolits for my 30-06, I do use a 160gr gas checked boolit (Lee) on top of 15gr of Trail Boss. It's is a great low recoil round that works very accurately in my 03-A3.
Hope this helps ya.

I've shot quite a few gas checked bullets in the '06 with Trail Boss. I do hover around the 90 or so % loading density with it and have had good results. The best so far has been with the Lee 180gr round nose with almost a case full of TB. This would probably be too much pressure and velocity with a PB bullet I'm thinking. If I were to begin such a project I think I would start with Air cooled wheel weight material as Ben seems to always have good results with it in his plain base endeavors. I would then probably work with the TB in charges from about 10 grains up to about 14 or so and see what happens. I'm thinking you'll probably get good results somewhere in there.
Good Luck,
Rick

Hello 1longshot

I was having lots of fun with 9rg TB and lee C309-200-R (no GC) as plinker, until I ran out of TB.
So much fun I had to find a substitute when I could not find anymore TB.
I'm now using 9gr Unique and a modified lee C309-200-R.
Here is a pic of the results.

Unique has always been my go to powder for plain base boolit shooting in my 30-06. It just works, and it's not too tough to find in the current insane world.

Am having encouraging results with the Penn Bullets 150 grain PB flat nose sized .310 in a Ruger #1 with nine grains of Trailboss. This bullet leaves less lead in the barrel than some others I've tried and shoots ragged holes at 25 yards.
