Just beginning to test the NOE 311041 in my Savage 99 in 308 Winchester with 1 in 12" twist. It has a ridiculously long and fat throat that I haven't been able to shoot J'ed in for anything. The 311041 was seated long with COL at 2.7 and sized .312 with an alloy of Lyman #2. The long throat is great for this cast as this long boolit doesn't extend down below the neck. Range was 50 yards. Looking forward to longer range after getting a couple powders in the acceptable range.
Tried Varget and 4350. I heard 4350 wasn't good but I use it in my 7.5 Swiss with good results.
Varget loads 30, 32, and 34 and the groups were .67, 1.2, and 1.14. For some reason I was expecting to go higher than these charges.
Tried IMR 4350 in 39, 41, and 43. The groups were .72, .3, and 1.68. I have since tried the 41 grain load and though not like this .3 one whole group shoots 1/2 groups at the 50 yards. Will do some more testing with charges around the 41 grain load.
Next up will be Rel 7 and 4895. The rifle will shoot a one hole group at 50 yards with a 160 LBT cast with 25 grains of Rel 7.
Any idea what the velocity would be with the 41 grains of 4350 and the 311041 that weighs in at 184?
Any other loads I should try with the this bullet in the 308?
