Is anyone loading for the Spanish Mauser 1916 in 308 (7.62 nato)? Like to hear how it is working for you?

The M1916 in 7.62 (FR7) will do very nice with most any cast bullet loads. Most all I've measured have 10" twist barrels so very good cast bullet accuracy can be had up through 1900 fps or so. I find cast bullets such as the RCBS 165 Sil, the Lyman 311299, etc. shoot very well in the FR7s and FR8s. But then no real reason why most any .30 or .31 cal cast bullet that fits the case neck and throat correctly won't shoot well.

I shoot 16.5 grs of 2400 with pretty much any .30 cal bullet in my 1916 and they all shoot very well.

I have been using 32 cal pistol boolits in my FR7. Unsized case, M-die flair and 10 grns Green Dot, any primer. Lee 93 1r, Lyman 311359, 313226, 311316, 311241. Some are checked, some not, lots of cheap fun, and I can hit a 10" plate at 100 yds offhand, with the factory sight,.......sometimes!

Back when I had a FR-7, it shot great with a Lee 170 FPGC sized .311" and pushed to 2500fps out to 400yds. I never tried it beyond that, but it always stayed on a B-27 out to that range, and wasn't hard to keep on a paper plate out to 275yds. All shooting was with the issue sights. However, anything not sized to .311" and softer than ACWW, accuracy always dropped off quick. However, this rifle is one of the few I have ever seen that would not lead the bore at all with either .309 or .311 bullets. I sold it because the stock was a bit short for comfort.

I have a 308 Spanish sporter that I absolutely love, I cut it to 22 inches, it wears an old Lyman receiver sight, lyman ramp and sits in a Boyd's RIA walnut sporter stock with the original safety. It has a pristine bore and I size my boolits to .3115

32.5 grains Reloader10 and a waterdropped 50pb/50ww 311291 is my "plinking" load for 250-300 yard steel targets that load clocks 2310 fps.

My hunting load is a BRP clone of the RCBS 165 Sil made of wd'ed 50/50 with annealed nose sitting on top of 42.0 grains W748 that load clocks about 2400 fps if memory serves.

Both loads shoot 1.5 MOA or better in mine when the nut behind the bolt is tight.

RCBS 30-180FN at .311, 13.0 Red Dot or 16.0 2400. Lots of fun, accurate and more power than the old 32-40 which dropped a lot of deer in it's day.

Has anyone tried the Lyman 311284

Has anyone tried the Lyman 311284

Not in an FR7 but in a couple other .308Ws. Most often with that short necked cartridge the bearing surface of that 311284 is too long. Seating so the front drive band bumps the leade generally results in the GC and base of the bullet being seated below the case neck. This can cause accuracy and perhaps a safety issue. Some do it with ok results but I prefer not to. The 311299 or similar design is much preferred to the 311284. The 311284 works very well in the longer necked '06 but that isn't an option in the FR7.

Thanks for the information I will stick with 311291 and a few others I have. How about the Lee 180gr made for the 303?
