I bought some molds the other day, and one of them was a Lyman 450229. It appears to be a 45 cal nose pour minnie ball. Any one know anything about this? Anybody interested in owning it? My front stuffer is a 54cal and I have no use for it.

It's a 44 cap and ball design and a good one.

I figured it was for a rifle, but if it's for a pistol, I might have a use for it. Thanks harry

Gunny, if you decide you want to part with it let me know. Most of what I shoot is C&B revolver so I have a good home for it.

It makes a dandy wadcutter mold for low powered loads in older double actions if the ogive is machined out straight.

If the cavity is cut right, there will be a tiny rebate on the base band that allows you to start it into the cylinder straight, before ramming it home. If that is neglected, they are hard to start right and will not shoot accurately. (I had one of each, and kept the good one.) If you lube it in the grooves, you don't have to bother with grease over the chambers.

It also works pretty good in the .45 Auto with typical cast boolit loads.
