My Handi 22 Hornet has the 1 in 9" twist barrel. I'm wondering how heavy a CB will still stabilize around 2000 fps?

My AR15 has a 1-9 barrel. I cast the Lyman 225-415 55gr (as cast weight with gas check) and am shooting at an estimated 2250fps. I run that same boolit, same load, in a 1-10 mini 14 and it also shoots great. Loads developed from 1800 fps were accurate but didn't cycle and lock back until I increased the powder charge and the velocity.

70 gr cast will. Problem is you get an awfully long nose sticking out into the rifling if you want to keep the GC inside the neck of the .223.

Larry, what velocity can be attained with the 22s, say 62-70 (or heavier if possible) in ARs with fast 8 & 9 twists? Given what you have found on the RPMs in those fast twists can they be stabilized & accurate at higher speeds?

I have a couple ARs with longer throats made for 80gr Sierra/Bergers, & a 22-250AI also made for them so the bullets are seated into L&Gs or very close so should handle heavier & longer cast bullets.

I only have 1 slo twist rifle a Rem 22-250 at 14. I bought it to shoot 55s & smaller but haven't shot it except to test fire so unless one of my other ARs is a 10 or 12 which I don't think so, that's my only real option for small cast bullets.

I just got the Bator with it in mind.

I was looking at the NOE 62, 68 & 70s with the faster twists in mind. Was wondering which would be the best for cycling & accuracy in the ARs (8 twist, 1 a Krieger, & 9 twist) & which in the bolts, Savage 9 twist & Sako 22-250 AI with a Kreiger 8 twist.

Hopefully one of them will work for 8/9s. If not what other mold would be good?
Thanks

Your best accuracy will be in the 1600 - 1900 fps range with 65 - 70 gr cast in 8-9" twist ARs. Same in the bolt actions. Best powder may very well be different in the ARs vs the bolts though. The 14" twist 22-250 will handle up to 65 gr cast and will do so upwards of 2400 - 2500 fps with very good accuracy.

So maybe the 62 for the 14 twist & 70 for the 8/9s.

That could be a plan.
