Are any of you guys using Mountain Molds. He has an interesting website and his prices are pretty reasonable. I have not read anything about them. Thanks for the input.

I have 4 of his 3 cavities, they are very good molds.
Design and order away, you won't be disapointed

Mountain Molds produced some the most accurate and reliable molds I've owned. Mine are aluminum.

I really like the mold I have. I had misdesigned one, sold it and got designed another. I really enjoy it.

Top notch molds. The boolit in my avatar is one I designed there.

I have one for my 480 Ruger and love it, bullets drop easily from mold and very accurate. Need to order some others one of these days.

A few months back I ordered my first custom mold (452-300 - 76% meplat) off his website, after spending about four bazillion hours toying with his design program. I'd happily buy again. Very nice mold.

I've spent many hours using his website boolit design tool. It has some limitations but as was said, you can learn a lot by fooling with it.

I've never bought anything from them but I've heard plenty of good things and no bad things about them. Buy with confidence. Just don't design a ****ty boolit. He'll cut your design whether it shoots or not.

Dan is my "go to" mold guy. One of our earliest custom suppliers here on the board. I'm sure our other suppliers are every bit as good, but considering I have always got exactly what I ordered in a very timely way from Dan, I will most likely stick with him.

I've got 3. Just got a .405-265 last week. All are excellent pieces of workmanship. My avatar is from my first Mountain Mould acquisition.

I have several of Dan's molds and each casts perfect bullets with ease.
I am especially pleased with the extra thick sprue plate and its great hold-down design ! There is no better design anywhere !

Most of my custom molds are now made by Tom at Accurate Molds but I would not hesitate to get others from Mountain Molds !

Dan makes great molds, I've used several of his molds over the years. Here is a pair of his molds I use for the 480, my attempt and scaling up the classic Keith SWC to a 275 gr .476" design, and a friends attempt to eke the most powder capacity out of the 480 case by going to a very long nose.

Both bullets are very accurate, and just as accurate as bullets I've cast from LBT, Ballisticast and NEI molds. Personally I prefer the way the aluminum molds cast and prefer saving a couple bucks on them. I'm glad Dan has gone to steel sprue plates, they are IMHO an improvement over the aluminum plates he started with.

The online design tool is awesome. I've found when casting with coww's the bullets come out a tad heavier than the predicted weight, on my 275 gr mold I went with a 270 gr design weight and they came out at 275.

I designed a mold for my buddy that wanted a bullet for his 357sig. MM had it done in short order & it throws perfect bullets form the first casting w/ a hot mold. Being able to design exactly, well to a point, the mold you want is worth the slightly higher cost of a semi custom. I just wish you could get a 4cav, 3cav is fine, but 4 is a perfect balance of speed & ease of casting.

Slightly higher is the key words here. The difference between an RCBS or Lyman mold and getting pretty much what you want is really negligible. Between Accurate and Mountain molds I was very surprised how truly reasonable their costs are.

For the price of MM, RCBS and Lyman aren't even a consideration as I can get exactly what I want in a MM.

For me, if I ge a production mold it will be a Lee 6 shooter, if I want something specific it'll be a MM, Mihec, NOE or Accurate. To me the MM online design tool is priceless. You can use the contraints of your cartridge neck length, your chamber throat and mag constraints and play with various nose profiles and lube grooves to dial in a design to a given weight.
