is 7.94 8mm?

I just received a message from a friend. He came into a bunch of 9mm Largo and 400 rounds marked 7.94. I'm thinking 8mm Mauser. Am I wrong on this? Thanks

My Mauser recollection is a bit fuzzy, but 7.94 is the .318 "J" bullet. 8mm is the later .323 JS bullet. I believe you can safely use the J bullet in JS barrels, but there's a date code break in 1935. The JS shouldn't be used in the early J bores though.
