I wanted so bad to get a deer with my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley hunter with a cast boolit but this guy came in on me fast and I barely had time to get the Henry lined up on him. He spotted me and turned to my left and went about 40 yards and stopped to look back at about 50 yards from me. His last mistake, as I was tracking him thru the Skinner peep and as soon as he hesitated I fired putting a 240XTP right into his heart. He ran about 20 yards with his head down and then piled up. Not the biggest deer I ever shot but he is pretty nice and I got him with my new Henry .44 wearing a Skinner peep. I really like this combination. Still going to try for a doe with the Blackhawk.
BTW the shot was on his left side and did not exit.

I love the Skinner on this rifle. It just plain works. The only issue I had today, first time out actually hunting with it, was that the front sight is a little hard to see when it's early. I was able to track this guy thru some brush before he gave me a shot. I did remove the aperature and just used the brass body kinda like a ghost ring and it worked perfect. I may have had trouble picking him up thru the aperature as it was pretty overcast this morning but I don't know that for sure. All I know is I put the front bead right on the crease frome his front leg and that is where I hit him. The xtp went thru the lower portion of his heart but did not exit. I took him to a processor because its warm out so I didn't recover the bullet.

Yea I know. That was the plan this last week since I was on vacation. But we are in the middle of some remodeling our house so I used what I knew worked. 240XTP over 24.5 gr Lilgun. Deadly accurate.

Winding up my vacation as well, got a little loading in but only one range trip so far. Never fails, fun stuff always seems to get pushed down on the "to-do" list.

There was a thread a week or so, where someone figured the levers might be obsolete and phased out by the gun manufacturers, I bet that 10 pointer doesn't think so. lol

Both the Henry .44 and the Skinner sight are beautiful things.

It is so hot here in Indiana. I only killed one doe that came through gut shot. I probably would have killed more if it were colder.

Great job on the 44 kill. Good luck with your SBH. I'm going after deer tomorrow with SBH and cast boolit.

That's a great buck! Should have asked the processor to save the bullet. I always love seeing how my bullets do.
