View Full Version : So I Had This Busted Lee Press,,,,,

Years ago when I first got set up to load 45acp I learned the hard way about die height, while trying to get the crimp right. (I would imagine that the force I imparted to this press (a few times,,,) would roughly correlate to sizing 50BMG without lube.) What it took to break this thing like I did was way beyond all expectation.

So, this thing has been moved here and there for a few years, alway's meaning to send it back to Lee. Lo and behold, I run across a post about warranty claims with a picture in an email. Take a pic. and wham bam, Lee tells me new press body on the way.

I have had a Redding powder drop waiting on a stand to be made for at least a year, and I'm standing there with the broken Lee base in my hand and I look at the powder drop,,,,,,,,,,.

So,,,I took a hacksaw to the lower half of the threads to have enough room to attach the down tube and,,viola!

Not much of a special project, but I like to save stuff from the recycle, and any time in the big boy room has been far too little lately.

From a Lee Precision fan boy, I like that "re-purposed" unit. Looking good and useful.

Makes me wish I had kept my Lee press when I broke it, Excellent thinking.

Quick thinking and a good job neatly done. A change of color would match it to any powder measure that you use. LLS

Good job! Some folks see something broken, others see what remains and find a use for it or find a way to fix it.

I save all my broken stuff for future use. This is another great example.
At the price folks want for a "powder measure stand" you can buy 2 of these presses, cut them up, be money ahead and have extra parts around!

If I hadn't gotten rid of it, I wouldn't remember I had it, or where it was.
Now I've got so much junk, I get lost in it. Time to thin the herd.
