Ruger Redhawk

I have just purchased a used Redhawk .44mag with the 5 1/2" barrel. I won't receive it for a week at least with Australia Post being the way they are. And leading up to Christmas will only get worse.

Anyway, I was wondering what the general bore diameter usually is on these guns.
I know I will need to slug it to know for sure, but just curious as to what others have found.
I used to own the 7 1/2" version back in the early 90's but I never did slug that one.

If you need a mould, I've got an RCBS 2 cavity, cast iron, Keith style 240gn'er, plain base I no longer use.

not the same exact gun, but my super redhawk alaskan slugged at .429

You just bought a very fine sixgun, they are exceptionally strong & with good bullets (cast) you will be very happy. I'd stay with 250-300 gr slugs & probably size them .430"-.431", you'll just have to shoot a few to find out, shooting is quicker & funner than slugging.....

Be sure to grab one of the lee 6 cav C430-310-rf for hat new baby... Most 44 mags just love that boolit... And the mold is not expensive either.... You wont find a better mold for your 44 for the money in my opinion. With the 6 cavity you will have a pile of boolits in no time... Prolly work wonders on them big water buffalo's... They are the go-too boolit for bear defense here in alaska...

My bore slugs at .429 and my cylinder slugs at .430 on my SRH (7.5"). I size to ,430.

430 bore / 432 throats on my mid-1990s blued 7.5 incher.

The lee 240 gr swc gc is also a good mold for the 44 mag, and it is easily converted to plainbase.

I have both a 7.5 and a 5.5. Both are .430 bore with .433 throats. I use the 310 grain Lee and the Lyman 429244 sized to .433 with VERY good results. The Lee mold drops at .434 and I had the Lyman opened up.

I have a 5.5 incher and the bore slugs at .429 and throats at .4315. Boolits sized .432 give me the best accuracy and least leading.

I will have to wait (impatiently) until mine arrives and see how it measures up.

My blue steel 5.5"/1999-made has fat .429" grooves and fat .430" throats. .431" castings shoot great, from 200 to 310 grains. Lyman #429244 is probably its best boolit, but all have shot very well. #429421 at 1000-1100 FPS is a docile delight in this big old boat anchor.

My 7 1/2 is .430 & .432. It's an older gun.

I use mine for loads I don't want to destroy my 29s & 629 S&W.

Mine likes 240-250s stuffed with H110.

Well It arrived Wednesday, and for $649 delivered to my dealer, I was impressed.
It appeared to be impeccably maintained and cleaned throughout.
It came with a gold bead front, and 'V' Rear blade sights which I found pretty good to use.
The barrel has 2 magnaport type vents cut into either side of the front sight. A faint cylinder drag ring and nice tight lock-up. Th Pachmayr came on it and I briefly swapped it for the Hogue but then realised I prefer the Pachmayr. I will commence my search for some original timber stocks for it now I guess. I'll try and get a chance to slug the bore & throats shortly, but i'm just having too much fun just yet.

Wonderful deal. Excellent pistol. I have the same one but in 41 MAG. I believe it is beefy enough to handle the stoutest loads.

My Redhawk has the Hammer Pin Tab on the opposite side.

Is that something that happens during shipment or does Ruger make them that way to function Down Under? :kidding:

I switched to the Pachmayr Decelerator from the Hogue Grips with a bare backstrap. That extra rubber on the backstrap makes the pull just right for me.
