Have gathered a few data points and some good but not great group sizes using the old reliable H&G 68 bullet in a few .45s I have around or used or borrowed.

One classic load was, IIRC, 4.0 gr Bullseye. I think that one tends to go about 725 or so FPS.

Wondering if any of us here has seen or experienced this bullet doing better or worse at various velocities.

Thanks!

Im sure there's a sweet spot for that excellent bullet in any 45 acp handgun ! generaly just about any charge between min & max shoots well in a good gun. Years ago i built a BE 45 1911 i put it in my ransom rest and fired 25 shot groups@ 25yards with charges of BE powder from 3.5 to 5.0 BE in 0.2 grain incruments, really they all shot well but the 4.0 & 4.5 gr load shot the absulate best from that gun I think the composet for all 8 groups was around 2 1/2" Also 4.0 to 4.5 gr of tightgroup and 5.0 grs of disconued win super light (WSL) works excellent .

I use 3.7 gr Red Dot for the 25 yard line and 4.2 gr Red Dot for the 50 yard line in Bullseye matches. That 4.2 gr load shoots 2" at 50 yards from sandbags in my Les Baer Bullseye. So the only excuse for my match scores is the nut behind the trigger.

Sounds like you're in the right neighborhood, my personal favorite is 5 grs 231 just because it's a little cleaner and the way I shoot I'll never notice a slight loss in accuracy.

the 200grn h&g 68 and the close clones amaze me.i have tried a few diferent style bullets in my 1911 kimber and done the ladder tests with different powders and charge wieghts to find the most accurrate load for my pistol.i have found that overall its the most accurate bullet design in my experience.but comparing it to others visually you would not think so.the tc or rn or rnfp look like they would stabilize and fly better than the swc but that hasnt been my experience.after all my personal testing i have settled on a 4.5 bullseye charge under the 200swc as my main load.seems it at 800fps but i dont have chrony to test.do a ladder test and see what is best in your gun.GSPMAN
