Sorry guys I was shooting j-words today put 20 through,
Doubletap ammo .45 Colt +P 300gr. 1325fps from 7-1/2 bbl
I was shooting a 16" 5lb Puma with steel buttplate and a slip on pad but man it still hurt.:(.
My .338 win mag dosen't seem to kick that hard.
This is going to be my thick brush, walk about gun
I like the light weight and quick pointing ability of this gun, but off the bench it can be brutal.

I'll trade shoulders with ya, Sunday I put 50 rounds through my new Marlin Cowboy in 45-70. The only mould I have is for a 450 gr. gas check. The best accuracy of the day came with a load that puts the 450's out of my brothers 18" Guide Gun at 1,800+. With the 26" barrel on the Cowboy, another hundred fps. wouldn't surprise me. Shot 10 that should have been even faster, but didn't chronograph them. They didn't shoot as well anyways. A little sore, but not bad. I'll try again Wed.

Same deal, I shot a Puma 44 mag and we were shooting specials through it. It still kicked like the devil!

Just for information, Buffalo Arms sells what they call a "recoil shield" that is basically a strap on recoil pad. Once adjusted properly, it is quite comfortable to wear, and prevents pain, discomfort, bruising, etc., when shooting shoulder fired guns with substantial recoil. I have been using one for several years now and would not want to be without it. Twenty to thirty rounds from the bench with a .458 Winchester Magnum is no big deal when you wear that "recoil shield"......without the "recoil shield" three to five rounds is about all I can stand and my shoulder is nicely bruised the next day.

My Puma with 44 Special loads is a nice rifle. With full house 250 gr 44 mag's, well, I'm a sissy I guess. It hurt. A slip on and a good tight hold make a big difference. I don't suppose a deer would really notice the difference between a 250 cast at 1400 and a 240 JHP at 1600 anyway, so I'll stick with cast.

My first levergun was a nice W94 Trapper in .44 mag. I was unpleasantly
surprised when I fired my first shots - 24 H110 under a Sierra 240 ! Yikes!
Man that thing KICKED!!!

My Marlin Guide Gun with 405s (cast and not) at 1750 to 2100 (really) have
taught me that, actually, a 44 mag Trapper W94 doesn't have that bad of
a recoil. I was just confused and didn't have a proper frame of reference. [smilie=1:

Bret - I also figured out that nothing would be able to tell the difference between
a 405 at 1750 and one at 2100, but **I** sure could tell the difference ! :-?

1750 it is.

I've got some Lee 310 gr loaded up for elk in the brush. I use a lace up pad when i shoot that gun with most loads. Gianni
