at that price you will not find what you seek. you can get a sam yang big bore for about 700, but they are a 50yd gun at best on deer, preferably closer

There are guns out there, like Quackenbush that will do what you want, there is a waiting list for them, you will get the power from them at the expense of SHOT COUNT, also Corsair and Euro-guns but the price rises quickly, there is fellow named "Mr Hollowpoint"( I don't think that is his given name), that has lots of videos on this and expertise. For scopes, I like scopes that will have parallax down to 10 yds. and has mildots as most all airguns have considerable drop in trajectory. My most powerful airgun is the .303 Wolverine, and some have used them for that type of game but I will not for fear of wounding and I have many pbs that will do a better job.
For cast boolits or pellets, most use pure lead or close to it, because of the low velocity.

I have a air rifle from extreme big bore its a 457 cal shooting a 250 grain slug at over 1000 fps. This gun will easily take deer out to 100 yards. I have shot many coyotes with it some well past 100 yards with complete pass throughs. Extreme big bore is easy to get ahold of and I waited 6 weeks for my rifle but it is worth it. 100 yard groups under an inch still working on farther ranges.

What Dia are you sizing the bullets to 457 or 458?

Another low cost alternative would be an Airforce Condor with a .257 barrel added so that cast bullets could be used, google Airforce and RL AIRGUN and Talon Tunes.

A .257 airgun on deer?.... Really?.... I'm not so sure I'd even use my DAQ .308 Exile at 180+ FPE.... I'd be happier with a good strong (over 200 FPE) .357 / 9mm shooting 150+ gr. bullets.... or bigger like a .457....

I'm shooting the Lee real 250 grain bullet cast with range lead sized to 457.

My Exteme 457 loves those Lee 250 grain REAL's also sized to 457 with a Lee sizing die. It will shoot one ragged hole at 50 yards all day long.

Given that a 38 Special handgun is considered underpowered for deer at 250 ft/lbs, 450 ft/lbs. would seem to be more realistic as a minimum. Here in the state of Nebraska 400 ft/lbs. at 50 yards is considered the legal minimum for handguns, and it would be best if your airgun can emulate that.

A 200 ft/lb. airgun is going to allow a lot of long blood trails with no recovery unless the shot is placed behind the ear. Definitely no lung shots with such power levels as the hole through lung tissue is very small with such energies.

If you can't even muster 38 Special ooomph with your airgun.......pass.

I am looking at one that is supposed to be 600 FPE at Muzzle so should be good to 100 "If" I place the shot properly .. With that said I would limit shots to around 75yds till I am confident in its, and bullets, ability to cleanly kill at those distances.. will even do some 100 yd board penetration tests
Guys thanks for all the answers

35 Rem.... I think that sounds like excellent advice.... I may just borrow that logic....
