I had quite a time Sunday evening! He fell to a 94 Win., 32 Winchester Special, Accurate Molds 32-170A and a big charge Reloader 7. It wasn't as easy as that sounds though.

The neighbor and I share a pond with a line fence that crosses the pond. He came from accross his field and took this line fence crossing over the pond. He stopped at about 40 yards and put his nose on the ground. I fired at the base of neck ahead of the right shoulder (quartering to me). He reared straight up and fell over in the water and kept going to my right. I fired two more times one broad side and one Texas heart. Those shots were high and a miss.

There was no blood that I could find, only water on the ground that dripped off his coat and a faint smell. He ran to the right and it sounded like he fell and started thrashing on the ground. After 20 minutes I went in and walked back and fourth looking for him and or sign. After about an hour I saw him standing in the brush about 125 yards from the first shot. With the Wiljen light under the forend of the 94 I put my last round through his neck.

I was surprised and concerned to see him standing with those big eyes reflecting at me from about 10 yards with just the one round left. Thank God he didn't come at me. I passed up a smaller buck with the Redhawk and had another buck turn on me using the Redhawk and didn't get to use it on a deer this year.

Congrats!! Great looking deer!

I have a superintendent that i work with from roughly the same area as you. The trail cam photos he shows me all the time make me sick.

There is a extra ponit that grown out of his left main beam and the right brow is forked while the left brow has 3, 1" or so points on its top. It's 21'' wide on the outside and the highest tines are 7,8 and 9 inches high. 16 points counting the 5 on top of the brow tines.

Hi pmer, Can you tell us about bullet peformance? I took the design of the 32-170A and made some changes to make a bigger lube groove, and it's now 32-180C. Weighs out at around 183 gr. with the same .220 meplat in a 3 cavity mold.I got my mold a couple weeks ago for my Great Granddad's 1897 vintage model 94 Win. 32-40. 23.0 gr. of IMR4895 gives me about 1675 fps.

I shot two deer with the 32-170A. The alloy is plain air cooled COWW with a BHN 14. I used last years batch of ammo and my record showed it going about 2200 FPS. It is lubed with LBT blue soft and gas checked.

Last years buck was a better aimed broadside shot. The bullet made a dime sized hole going in and golf ball sized holes through the lungs and golf sized hole going out. This years buck with the 32-170A is a little more mysterious. The fourth shot went through the neck with a nice exit (about 12'' thick neck in full rut) The first one didn't come out (quartering).

But it likes 29.0 of Reloader 7 and the boolit shoots good with a light load of Bullseye too. My mold also has a 32-150 that shoots at 165 grains but I have not hunted with that design. It has smaller meplat.

Thanks everyone. He headed for the thickest brush he could find. Then the hard part began, I pulled him a short distance and figured out pretty quick that wasn't going to work. Then I went back to the house and ended up returning with a little 2 seat trailer that connects to a bicycle.
My wife and I laid him on that and we pulled him to the ATV that way. I packed the Glock 30 in case of any critters that might have had designs other than our own but it wasn't needed. I dropped him off yesterday and he weighed in at 170 lbs.

I don't set out in search of these big deer but I have to humblely say I've been blessed a couple times now.

Heck of a buck there. He look good on the wall and on the plate. Congrats. Don't you have pockets to carry more boolits?

So true, I forgot all about the Redhawk I had with me when I first saw him. Then I left it with the rest of my stuff at the tree stand when I went to look for him. I figured he was down for the count.

That's a nice one!

Years ago I used to see used M-94 .32 Specials in the gun stores and thought "who would want one of those when 30-30 is so much easier to find ammo for?" They were cheap "back then" (late 1970's). Wish I'd bought one now!

I picked up that .32 Win. Special at a gun show a couple years ago in large part due to the slower barrel twist and RPM posts here on CB. This one is a '50s model and I have a older one with a longer barrel and a half mag tube. The old one is a .32 WS but it shoots high and has a trigger that is too light for hunting so it needs some work.

That deer is guessed to be around 4.5 years old because of the condition of his teeth.
